Dracula Emerges in Dublin: The Medieval Castle Premiere

Jonathan Rhys Meyers returned to his hometown of Dublin on Thursday with a special gift for the residents of the Irish city: the premiere of NBC/Sky Living’s Dracula. And, once again, with flourish that can’t be ignored, the screening took place in the breathtaking Christ Church Cathedral, the oldest standing medieval cathedral in the city of Dublin (Founded c. 1030). Incidentally, Dublin is also the birthplace of Dracula author Bram Stoker.

While there, Rhys Meyers talked about his own take on Dracula, along with his friend – the iconic Christopher Lee. It’s also reported he read passages from a leather-bound copy of Bram Stoker’s famous novel.

“It is a role which has been played by many people,” he told reporters, “It was a challenge how could I make that role mine.” He went on to say, “I became friends with Christopher Lee 12 years ago. He was very iconic. I wanted to make my own Dracula.” Additionally, he went on to say his interpretation of Dracula, along with the element of blood drinking itself, has obvious sexual overtones.

“…he reserves his teeth for women.”

The NBC premiere of Dracula is on October 24th. Sky Living viewers will have to curb their thirst a little longer until their scheduled October 31st premiere.

Stay tuned as we watch the clock wind down, with more Dracula news you can sink your teeth into.
